What’s On in Currarong
Currarong Beaches
Currarong, on the NSW South Coast, is surrounded by 14 white-sand beaches. This sleepy village on the northern tip of Jervis Bay Marine Park is a haven for fishing, swimming, kayaking, bushwalking, and exploring.
Start by getting to know Currarong Beaches - Abrahams Bosom Beach (great for families), Currrong Beach (great for surfing), and Warrain Beach (great for walking). The tidal rockpool is the perfect spot for the kids to swim and play. There’s also some fun snorkling around the rockpool
Feel like a bit of a hike? Head out from Abrahams Bosom Reserve carpark. Take a detour via the Wreck Walk and search for the rusted remains of the S.S. Merimbula that crashed into the rocks at Whale Point in 1928 then onto the stunning Wilson Beach.
From Honeysuckle Point drop into Lobster Bay for snorkling the continue along the sandy track to Gosangs Tunnel. The short scramble to the dramatic cliff ledge is not for the feint-hearted. Then onto Mermaids Inlet where you can watch the daring rock fishers try to hook a marlin - one of the only places on the East Coast where you can snag a big game fish. For a more challenging walk, the 9km Coomies Walk takes in the amazing views from the Beecroft Headland clifftops.
A 5-min drive from Currarong brings you to Beecroft Weapons Range. Don’t be put off by the name as it is home to some of the best beaches in the area. This pristine headland features the Point Perpendicular Lighthouse which is a great spot for whale watching, and some of the best rock fishing sites in Australia. The area, managed by the Department of Defence, is only open on weekends, public holidays, and school holidays. Check their Facebook page for opening times.
Honeymoon Bay is a delightful crescent shaped beach - look out for kangaroos. Long Beach, which as the name suggests is good for a long walk. A hike through the bush to Target Beach and Silica Cove - yes the white sand is just as good as Hyams and guaranteed no crowds. Bindijine and Cabbage Tree beaches round out the Weapons Range beaches.
